Explainer
This license allows others to create remixes (derivative works) based not only on your original music but also on Remixes of it.
They can use your music to create something new, but they must give you attribution (credit) for the original work, and you'll receive a percentage of any revenue they make from their remix.
This is a great option if you want to encourage others to build on your music and share their own unique creations.
On the other hand, when you make a Remix, you have to say that it's a Remix of a certain song by a certain artist.
You also have to pay the artist who created the original track a percentage of the revenue you make from selling or otherwise using the remix in any commercial way.
The amount you pay is decided by the artist and explained in "Exhibit A" of the OURSONG TERMS OF SERVICE.
Examples
Encouraging remixes:
A musician might choose to release a track under an Open License+ to encourage others to create remixes of their work.
This can help to build a fanbase and increase exposure for the artist, as remixes can be shared and distributed widely online.
Collaborating with other artists:
A musician might collaborate with other artists on a track and use an Open License+ to allow each artist to create their own remix of the original material.
Remixes created from the Open License+ can be further remixed.
This can create a diverse range of remixes and help to showcase each artist's unique style and sound.
Allow remixes to be available for commercial use:
A musician might choose to license their music under an Open License+ to allow remixes from the music to be available for commercial use, such as in a film or advertisement.
This can provide a new revenue stream for the artist while also allowing for creative remixes of their work to be used in new contexts.
Remix contests:
A musician might hold a remix contest to allow participants to create and submit remixes of their work. By using Open License+, remixed works can be used for commercial purposes.
This can be a fun and interactive way to encourage creativity and incentivize participants to create remixes.
All in all, the Open License+ can be a useful tool for musicians who want to encourage the creation of remixes of their works while still maintaining some control over how their music is used and distributed.
