Hey OurSong musicians!
You may have seen the licensing options and wondered what it means for your music.
To put it simply, licensing is all about giving permission for others to use your music in various ways.
There are four main types of licensing options to consider when it comes to sharing your music with others. Let's break them down:
If your music is "remixable," you can choose -
1. Open License:
Grants others the right to create remixes of your music using your original tracks, and these remixes can be used for commercial purposes. However, the remixes must be derived directly from your original tracks and cannot be based on existing remixes. Remixers must credit and share revenue with the original author according to a predetermined percentage.
2. Open License Plus (Open License+):
Allows others to create remixes from your original tracks and share those remixes for further remixing. This means that remixes can be built upon multiple times, offering more creative possibilities. Open License Plus permits commercial use of the remixes.
3. Personal License:
Allows others to create and share in a non-commercial manner (which means that you cannot trade the remixes on OurSong) remixes of your music, with attribution to you.
If your music is "not remixable," you can choose -
1. Collectible License:
Lets someone use a work for personal, non-commercial use only. They must display the name of the creator on any copies, but they can't make any remixes.
Overall, there's no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to music licensing. It really depends on what you want to achieve with your music and how you want it to be used.
By understanding the different licensing options available to you, you'll be better equipped to make informed decisions about how to share your music with others.
